Class Action is a music and art label founded in 2020. It is owned and operated by Jason Roth (CrowdRock, Neon Cities) and Joel Umbriaco (Pure Music Label Group). The two were introduced by Nate Lappaguard (Ishe, Tnure) in 2019. They shared a deep desire to operate an independent music label focused on honoring work and creatives, and in 2020 Class Action was born.
Our goal is to put out creative work that we simply..love. We put out music that is emotionally clear, timely, and professionally executed. Notes with heart, and notes about things that genuinely matter. Our goal is to put out more art and environmentally minded merch starting in 2022. But it’s just tunes for now.
We created this label to explore other ways of doing music business, a way we didn’t see happening, with integrity, in ways that help us sleep at night. With that said, proper music marketing, branding, and artist development takes work, lots of it. We honor that work, and we don’t do it for free.
Class Action Lawsuits gave common people the ability to hold large organizations (both governments and corporations) morally and financially accountable for their actions. Originally descended from the idea of group litigation in medieval England, they started in 1840’s in the United States. “Classy,” as a term, is rooted in colonial ideas about wealth and power, class is the root word after all. We seek to untangle and then cut the strings tying the idea of ‘preferred behavior’ or ‘class,’ to ‘wealth.’ With music and art as our tools. A deep sense of accountability and ethics is at root of how we operate.
We are not looking for new artists at this time. For all other inquiries contact joel(at)classactionthebrand.com or use our contact form.
With Love, and notes, and stuff,
